About Bloor West Village:

One of Toronto’s most unique neighbourhoods, Bloor West Village offers the close-knit fabric of neighbourhood friendliness, with direct access to downtown via the Bloor-Danforth subway line.

You’ll find a little Eastern European flavor scattered throughout the over 400 shops, services, delis, and bakeries that line the main Bloor Street strip. A perfect place for families to grow, it has excellent schools and is within walking distance of High Park, truly making it “A Small Village in a Big City.”

History of Bloor West Village:

  • In the 1850’s, the area was the property of Lieutenant Colonel William Smith Durie, the first commanding officer of the Queens Own Rifles
  • The present day neighbourhood began to be developed in 1909 when this district became part of the City of Toronto
  • When the Bloor West Subway line was completed in 1968, competition to local business from downtown led to the development of the Bloor West Village Business Improvement Association (BIA)
  • As the world’s first BIA, this not-for-profit association focuses on local improvements and stimulating local businesses
  • Today there are 77 BIA’s in Toronto and the idea is now used globally
  • In 2OO5, a fountain was dedicated to Alex Ling, the BIA leader, and founder

Bloor West Village: A Perfectly Designed Neighbourhood

Part of what makes Bloor West Village so popular with young families is the unique the way the neighbourhood is laid out. The busy strip of businesses along Bloor Street helps minimize traffic on residential streets.

Classic Turn-of-the-Century Homes

Homes are a mix of detached and semi-detached houses, mostly built between 1912 and 1923. At the front are well-tended gardens and deep front porches with garages tucked away at the rear of the house.

Don’t Miss Out!

With a new generation putting down roots in the neighbourhood and raising families, there are fewer homes that come on the market. This short supply has made Bloor West Village one of Toronto’s most coveted neighbourhoods.
