We Help the Community Locally, and Abroad

Giving back is important to us. We give back locally by supporting our city with TOY MOUNTAIN, our local community with Friends of McCormick Park, and internationally, by supporting disaster relief charity, ShelterBox Canada.

Toy Mountain:

On Saturday December 10th, 2016, a special screening of A Christmas Story happened at Toronto’s historic Revue Cinema. This classic movie was filmed here in Toronto in 1983, and is centred around a young boy in the 1940s named Ralphie and his seemingly fruitless attempts to convince his parents, his teacher, and Santa that a Red Ryder B.B. gun really is the perfect Christmas gift.

Attendees brought an unused, unwrapped toy as donations to TOY MOUNTAIN – a special charity partnership between CTV Toronto and The Salvation Army.

A SPECIAL GUEST from the original cast was in attendance for a Q&A: Tedde Moore, who played the Genie-nominated Miss Shields! We were honoured to have Tedde as a part of the event.

Friends of McCormick Park

Friends of McCormick Park are a small group of residents in the Brockton Village area who have come together in honour of advocating for McCormick Park. Their Adopt-A-Tree program allows for the maintenance of newly planted trees to stay alive throughout their first few years of life when they are the most fragile.

How We Help

Trust Realty Group lends a helping hand by donating our office space for event planning and providing our staff members to help support events; including graphic design for their annual fall event: McCormick Park Festival.

Some of the projects this organization is currently working on include: building a new playground; a cafe in the park, and solving problems related to vandalism, off-leash dogs, and other safety concerns for the neighbourhood.

This image illustrates the trees that are available for adoption. If you live in the area, please consider donating.

ShelterBox Canada

Thousands of communities around the world lose their homes, possessions and livelihood from natural disasters and humanitarian community crises each year. Without the support from others, these communities would be unable to rebuild themselves and continue to survive. In an effort to provide support for these communities, Trust Realty Group has partnered with ShelterBox Canada.

ShelterBox is a cutting-edge charity that hand-delivers emergency shelter for families devastated by natural disaster and conflict. Their signature ShelterBoxes and ShelterKits contain the tools to transform lives and rebuild communities. ShelterBox is fueled by an impatience to reach more people, to empower them to transform their lives, and to build a world where no family is left without shelter.

A few examples of the crises they have helped include:

  • The 2004 Indian Ocean Tsunami
  • The 2010 Haiti earthquake
  • The Syria crisis
  • The biggest storm to ever make landfall: Typhoon Haiyan in the Philippines.
  • Hurricane Matthew in 2016
  • ShelterBox is currently reaching out to support those who are being affected by landslides in Colombia, Flooding in Peru, Cyclone Dineo in Mozambique, and drought and famine in Somaliland.

How We Help

Each month, with every transaction made, Trust Realty Group will provide proceeds towards ShelterBox aid.

ShelterBox aid includes ShelterBoxes, ShelterKits, SchoolBoxes, as well as general aid items like solar lights and children’s activity packs. ShelterBox Response Team members provide ShelterBox aid to communities so they have the essential tools to start repairing and rebuilding homes straight away. The aid is customized depending on where it is going and what the families need. They also provide people with temporary shelter until they are able to start the process of rebuilding a home. The cost of a full ShelterBox is $1200, the SchoolBox is $1200, and the ShelterKit is $100 or $250 with lumber and roofing sheets. These costs include the cost of shopping the aid and having a ShelterBox Response Team deliver it and train the communities.
